Bibliometric Analysis of the Extracranial-Intracranial Bypass Literature
2022, World NeurosurgeryCitation Excerpt :The source-normalized impact per paper and SCImago Journal and Country Rank scores for the top 5 publishing journals of the top 50 most-cited publications were retrieved from the Scopus database (www.scopus.com). Our search of the Web of Science database identified 125 articles that met inclusion criteria, from which the top 50 most-cited publications were selected (Supplementary Table 1).1,3,4,8-29,30-54 The mean number of total citations (calculated as total number of citations/years since publication) for each article was 117.06 (range 35–1437).
Long-Term Effects on Preventing Stroke after Endovascular Treatment or Bypass Surgery for Intracranial Arterial Stenosis
2019, Journal of Stroke and Cerebrovascular DiseasesCitation Excerpt :Surgical revascularization using STA-MCA bypass surgery failed to prove efficacy for internal carotid artery occlusive disease compared with medial therapy in the EC/IC Bypass Study.5 However, the study was criticized because of the large number of patients who were operated on outside of the study and the lack of hemodynamic assessment during patient selection.23,24 After that, 2 randomized controlled trials (RCTs) were conducted to prove the superiority of STA-MCA bypass applied for restricted patients who showed obvious hemodynamic impairment with objective indicators.11,25
History, Evolution, and Continuing Innovations of Intracranial Aneurysm Surgery
2017, World NeurosurgeryCitation Excerpt :In 1969, Yasargil111 described the superficial temporal artery–middle cerebral artery bypass for the management of complex aneurysms, which redirected extracranial flow to the intracranial circulation with a single end-to-side anastomosis. Despite the negative results of the Carotid Occlusion Surgery Study, this technique has been widely adopted for complex aneurysms that cannot be managed with conventional microsurgical or endovascular techniques.112,113 In response to problems with limited flow, a second-generation technique was subsequently developed using high-flow interposition grafts connected to donor sites in the patient's neck.114-129
